What can I expect from Counselling?

If you're wondering what to expect, the questions and answers below may be helpful to you...

Can I meet you before I commit to sessions?

Research suggests that the therapeutic relationship is key to successful therapy. Feeling that you can trust and share your inner-most thoughts and feelings with your counsellor is extremely important, so to help you decide whether you would like to work with me (and if my approach it right for you), I offer a free initial session (either by telephone, online or in person) with no obligation to start ongoing counselling.

Who do you work with?

I counsel young people (11yrs+) and adults.

What type of counselling do you offer?

I provide individual, person-centred counselling. This can be in person, by telephone or online via zoom.

How long do sessions last and how many will I need?

Counselling sessions are for 50mins (either in person or remotely) with 10 minutes note-taking time at the end of the session. I offer short term or long term counselling, depending on the needs of the individual. Sessions are usually once a week.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

If you need to cancel a session, please contact me as soon as possible. Cancellations that occur within 24 hours of the session time could still be charged.

When and where can you see me?

I have sessions available Monday - Friday.

My private, ground floor counselling room is situated on the outskirts of Irthlingborough with ample parking available just outside. It is not far from the A14 and A45, offering easy access from Wellingborough, Rushden, Kettering, Northampton and surrounding areas.

How will I know how to get there?

The address (and a map) can be found on the 'Contacts' page of this website. I will also forward detailed directions when we arrange an initial meeting.

At what time should I arrive?

I will be ready to meet you at the front door of the building at the time of your session. If our session is by phone I will ring you at the pre-arranged time. If we are meeting online, you simply click on the link that is provided by email or text .You'll have access to a virtual waiting room. I'll see you are waiting and let you in when the session is due to start.

Is counselling private?

respect your need for privacy and we will discuss and agree a contract of confidentiality once you have decided that you would like to have counselling.

How do I book a session?

You can contact me by phone, text, email or post and I'll get back to you as soon as possible - usually within 24 hours. Please see the 'Contact' section for details.

How much do sessions cost and how do I pay?

After a free initial consultation, I charge £45 per session. Concessions are available for counselling, including discounts for students. You can pay by cash or bank transfer. Clinical Supervision is charged at £45 for an hour, £65 for an hour and a half.
